Using creative animation, KAKENYA is a short documentary that tells a simple story of an African girl with a dream, and how she made her dream a reality. Not only did Kakenya impact her village for the better, but she also demonstrated to other youth that they, too, can make their dreams come true. This is her Vital Voice. A Bluesman blinded by ambition, and at the peak of his career, is confronted by the Devil, to whom he had sold his soul 30 years before in exchange for great success. Based on the Faust myth and legends of musicians who have sold their souls to the devil, CROSSROAD has the particularity to not tell the story of the human who signed the pact, but the story of the Devil, who in this story may not be the most evil of the two.

CrossRoad is a CG animation short film directed by 4 students during their last year at ESMA (Ecole Superieure des Metiers Artistiques, Montpellier, France): Benoit Rimet, Olivier Gros, Charles Emmanuel Farkas and Scott Bono.

A project by Andrew James, STREET FIGHTING MAN is a feature-length documentary about 3 men, each a generation apart, struggling to survive in post-industrial Detroit.

Deris Solomon is a young single father who wants to leave behind a high-risk life on the streets; Luke Williams is a middle-aged man remodeling a former crack house after being homeless for several years; and James “Jack Rabbit” Jackson is a retired police officer struggling to save his neighborhood from crime after the local police station is dissolved. Through the stories of these men, the film unflinchingly reveals how hard it can be to build a future when everything seems to be crumbling around you.

Using a new generation of cameras, Jose A. Hervas composed this beautiful timelapse — a video made up of long-exposure pictures, joined together to show the movement of stars, clouds, and shadows, all making a real acceleration of what happens in over many hours, in order to see them in seconds.

Believe it or not, all the pictures are real, and 99.9% of the video was done at night (with the help of LED lamps to illuminate rocks, trees, etc.) All pictures were made on the island of Ibiza. Click here for more info on the video.

An unprecedented event in the history of Chilean social protests occured during the student movement bursting in 2011: a black flag with the inscription “Free Education Now” begins a journey of 1800 hours of non-stop waving around the Goverment Palace. Neither rain, nor cold, nor the tear gas will be able to detain thousands of protesters who, day and night, run with the hope that their demands will be heard. From Outside the Block Entertainment, Eighty-Six is a new dramatic webseries comprised of: questionable characters, ruthless businessmen, divas, a little bit of comedy, and a cliff hanger.

A 2012 Los Angeles Web Series Festival award winner, Eighty-Six provides a mysterious plot line about an entertainment company keeping life-changing secrets, which they’re willing to do anything to keep hidden. Writers/producers Francesca J. Gailes and Adam Starks describe the series as “high concept drama exposing the underbelly of success within the entertainment industry”.

A chance meeting with a girl leads to murder, as a teenage boy is engulfed by a web of lies in this gripping factual drama.

My Murder tells the 2008 true story of Shakilus Townsend (played by John Boyega), a south London 16-year-old boy who was led to his death by the 15-year-old girl he thought of as his girlfriend, in what became known as the “honeytrap” murder. Written by 28-year-old playwright Levi David Addai, the film was produced for, and first aired on, BBC3 on March 26th as part of a season of programs examining how crime affects young people. From filmmaker Matthew A. Cherry, The Last Fall tells the story of Kyle Bishop, played by Lance Gross (House of Payne), a 25 year-old budding NFL star who suddenly finds himself out of work, penniless and with no idea what to do next. But this film is about more than just football.

The Last Fall recently premiered at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival, and it was just named an official selection of the 2012 American Black Film Festival in Miami (ABFF). Check out the trailer above.
